The BOBOLU story and the power of positive quotations

Trish tell us what inspired you to create Bobolu Designs?

I’ve always been a great believer in the power of positive quotations and affirmations. For as long as I can remember I’ve been drawn to them because of the positive vibes they emit. I have found that when life has thrown me a curve ball or put road blocks in my way I have always turned to positive affirmations or uplifting quotations to take me to a better place in my head. By scribbling these on post it notes and strategically placing them around my house, they help to change my thinking and bring about a positive change in my life.

I bought my first book of quotations over 20 years ago. A tiny little book, no bigger than the size of a box of matches, I still have and refer to it. And from there my love of quotations, positive affirmations and feel good messages grew. A big fan of Louise Hay, a master in positive philosophy, I travelled to San Diego to attend one of her seminars and as well as traveling to hear the likes of Tony Robins, Wayne Dyer, Marianne Williamson and Robert Holden, all gurus in positive thinking and personal development.

It's all in the name... where did the name BOBOLU come from?

So the name….its quiet simple really, we have two gorgeous children called Bobby and Lucy, hence I called the company BOBOLU. On a rare occasion when my husband Sean and I had the opportunity to get a night away together, and armed with nothing but a pen and a glass of wine, we started writing versions of their names on a coaster. That was the beginning.  

I came home the following night, took out a flip chart and came up with BOBOLU; Bob-o-Lu. Hopefully as they get older they’ll come to understand why I came up with that name. In time, I want them to know that it is important for me to have a career & fulfil my own needs. I also want them to know that I love them beyond measure and calling my company after them encompasses both my love for them as well as doing a job I love.

My mission with BOBOLU is to spread that positive vibe which will hopefully help others in their own pursuit of happiness and success, be it in their personal lives, careers or businesses.

Eir Spiders Digital Workshop, The Building Block, Sligo

On Wednesday the 23rd of August 2017, I had the pleasure of joining the panel at the eir Spiders Digital Workshop in The Building Block, Sligo.  It was a very enjoyable and productive morning of networking with like-minded business owners.  I was delighted to share my knowledge and experience with an engaged audience and I also gained lots of digital insights from the other digital experts on the panel. 

MODERATOR: Aidan Doyle - CEO, Sligo Chamber of Commerce

The opening address was given by Aidan Doyle, CEO of Sligo Chamber of Commerce who also acted as moderator during the workshop.  Aidan is CEO of Sligo Chamber of Commerce & Industry.   He has extensive experience in business having held management roles within Bank of Ireland and the Rabbo Banking Group in Cork and Sligo for over 25 years.   Aidan is a co-founder of the successful company Dream Links Golf, which specialises in attracting overseas golfers to the Sligo region focusing on the connoisseur golfer and the corporate market.   As CEO of Sligo Chamber of Commerce & Industry Aidan works closely with all stakeholders to develop growth and innovation to the Sligo Region.

I was first up to deliver my presentation on 'The rise of Digital Influencer Marketing and how it can impact your bottom line'.  As CEO of Irish Blogger Agency, Ireland's dedicated agency for digital influencer marketing I was in a position to share my experiences and give my point of view on the benefits of digital influencer marketing, how to measure influencer marketing success, how to effectively engage with digital influencers and I closed my presentation by sharing some successful digital influencer campaigns over the past 12 months. 

Daniel Browne, Commercial Director Ocean Media, Director of Sea Sessions Surf & Music Festival

As a blogger and content creator I was very interested in hearing Daniel Browne's presentation titled ' Content is still king' - exploring constants in a changing environment'.   Having worked in the media in the north west for almost 20 years, after a career in journalism Daniel moved to the commercial side of media opening 13 Newspapers for River Media as Operations Director.  With all this experience, amazing stage presence and lots of charm it is no wonder Daniel delivered a fantastic presentation.

Today Daniel is the Commercial Director of Ocean Media, which operates the award winning radio station Ocean FM, and now delivers video production for commercial clients across the region as well as web design, social media management and graphic design. Daniel is also one of the owners of Sea Sessions Surf Music Festival in Bundoran, a multi award winning festival which most recently beat Electric Picnic and Longtitude to be named the IMRO festival of the year for 2016.

Barry Walsh, Digital Marketing Manager, Supermacs Ireland

Confident, charismatic and full of energy, Barry Walsh delivered an excellent presentation on 'Understanding mobile experience for business'.  As Digital Marketing Manager for Supermacs Ireland Barry oversees management and development of Online Digital Strategy and implementation for Supermac's Ireland.   Barry also spoke about Digital Transformation and shared news of the new Supermac's app launching soon.  He also touched on branding through Social Media and Google Analytics for business.  

Previously, Barry worked as Lead Digital Consultant for Failte Ireland for 4 years, and was the Digital Strategy Manager for lead digital tourism agency OSD Digital. He was also a Digital mentor for Bank of Ireland and a Google Entrepreneur Mentor.  

Paul Mulqueen, Head of Small Business, eir

Sharing some real life examples from his own personal experiences, Paul gave a true and honest insight into the use of social media for small to medium size businesses.  There was lots to be learnt during Paul's presentation on 'The Revolution of Social Media in Small Business', with some top tips and tools shared,  allowing you to take your business into the digital age!

Paul started in eir over 19 years ago, when it was Telecom Eireann, within the IT department. He began his career as a Trainee Test Analyst testing the introduction of a new and innovative product called ‘broadband’! Since then, Paul’s role has evolved as he progressed through the company becoming a Product Manager for Value Added Services and Broadband. While in this role, he took the retail product lead in the development and implementation of fibre broadband in Ireland.

Following this, he became Head of Product for Small Business and subsequently the Head of Small Business where he manages the product and propositions areas for the business unit. Through his role, Paul has seen first-hand how the explosion of social media has helped small businesses thrive.  Paul knows it’s powerful to be connected online but that’s not enough, how you use your channels and what you say to your customers is what really takes a small business to the next level. 

Panel Discussion / Q & A

With an eager and engaged audience there was no shortage of questions at the end, all answered comprehensively by the panel.  Every day is a learning day in the 'Digital Space' so I have no doubt everyone left with some nugget of wisdom and excited to integrate (or improve) a digital marketing strategy into their marketing plan.  I certainly gained from bieng part of the workshop and I am looking forward to implementing some new and exciting strategies into my own digital marketing plan over the coming months.

As a Digital Marketing Strategist, Blogger and Web Designer specialising in e-commerce websites I know the importance of implementing a digital marketing strategy.  

The first question I ask any potential client is "Does your Business have a clearly defined Digital Marketing Strategy?".  The answer varies between NO full stop or No - we are doing digital marketing but have no defined digital marketing strategy.

Life has become so busy and we are finding less and less time to connect with each other.I believe we all want a community where we connect to like-minded people in a safe and friendly environment. I have been running groups since 2008 and it is amazing to see the support people offer to each other when they share their experiences with one another. We have so much to learn from each other and when we learn to open up we are helping release the taboo of speaking from our hearts and helping others to do the same. It is truly one of the most healing experiences within a group setting. We start off with relaxation exercises and I will then guide the group into a deep and relaxing guided visualisation where we encounter the deeper parts of our mind, body and spirit and really listen. In this silence we become aware of our hidden fears and worries, we acknowledge and accept them in order to let them go. Not until we are aware of how we feel can we deal wit it. 

Mindfulness Awareness Programme

Like much of my work I come from a holistic approach to everything I do, I not only guide and help people to be mindful of their daily experiences but also to be present in each moment to help them understand what they are feeling is part of that experience.  I have worked with private, school and corporate groups for the past number of years and it is all a joy to see people learning how to be more present in their personal and professional lives, knowing who they are and moving forward in their lives with a more positive approach. Mindfulness is a practise and one that must be learned like everything else we have learned to do in our lives. Once you bring this beautiful practise into your daily life, you will open up new gateways in your mind, body and spirit. 

Reiki Energy Therapy Teaching

As a Reiki Master, Teacher & Practitioner, I have taught many students over the years to learn to be able to help themselves and others in an intuitive and gentle way. Reiki (pronouned Ray-Key) is a gentle hands on healing energy therapy which helps to release blocked energy that otherwise should be flowing freely within our energy system. When we have blocks in our energy, sometimes as a result of trauma, fear or conditioned beliefs passed down through the years, we are not running at 100%, we are existing from day to day but not fully living the life we want or know what that life would feel like. Before any of my students become practitioners, they too must go through learning and understanding of their energy system, mind, body and spirit and in helping themselves to better understand how to heal their own issues, they in turn can help others. They will learn how to develop their intuitive abilities so they can help others not just from their own knowledge but by what is best for their clients in that moment. It is truly a doorway into self discovery and self love. 

Your workshops & retreats sound amazing, tell us about them...

As part of my own personal and professional development, I created a number of workshops and retreats over the years, in helping others learn I am also growing in confidence and creating new and exciting challenges for myself. We cannot ask everyone else to grow and learn if we are not doing so ourselves. 

Each workshop or retreat offers a special theme that we will work deeper into what it means to each person, we are all individuals, so no two people we see,hear or feel the same things, this is what makes every training I do with people exciting and always fun. We commit a day or weekend to ourselves and in that commitment we are choosing to accept the change we want to create in our lives. 

Exciting times ahead for the launch of your new book in December 2017, what's it all about?

I am currently in the process of finishing my book which is to be launched this year, it is an awareness and of healing, recovery and ongoing mindful awareness that we all need love and support. I hope it gives you all the courage to share your story too.

The aim of employability development is to make you employable – to have the skills, abilities, knowledge, and experience that employers want – so that you can compete for and obtain the jobs you want, and to succeed in them once you have them.
