Mini Media Meets...Dolores Andrew Gavin, CEO Irish Health Hour
After almost 20 years working in law where I qualified as a Legal Executive and held a Diploma in Legal Studies I embarked on a new journey into health and wellness. This was partly due to economic circumstances and partly due to my new role as Mum!!
Tell me about your own background?
After almost 20 years working in law where I qualified as a Legal Executive and held a Diploma in Legal Studies I embarked on a new journey into health and wellness. This was partly due to economic circumstances and partly due to my new role as Mum!!
I had always had an interest in natural health and wellness and have spent the last 8 years re training. My studies have included Master Practitioner in Energy Medicine including Emotional Freedom Technique, Reiki Master, Empowerment Coach, Soul Care Practitioner, Soul Mentoring, Emotional Intelligence, Aromatherapy and a few more!!! I am also an Author of two children’s bi-lingual books and associated emotional intelligence website www.themythicfairy.com.
Tell us a little bit about IrishHealthHour
IrishHealthHour is a national and international interactive health and wellness community. It is a place where all things health and wellness are discussed and shared and, where people can come to promote what they do.
I have always enjoyed networking and organising events and during my time involved in Junior Chamber Galway in the ‘90s I chaired many projects including the Tourist Guide twice! I was also Chapter President of Junior Chamber Galway in 1998. So I combined a lot of the older skills I had under my belt with the newer ones I was learning and brought together a community for networking in the health and wellness field.
I also founded the Global Emotional Health Summit, a week long on line Summit where 18 experts from all over the world took part in a series of interviews on all things emotional and mental health. It was a huge success and I had over 300 subscribers from all corners of the globe logging on to hear the calls throughout the course of the week.
I also had many members from the IrishHealthHour community chatting all things health and wellness in a special “fireside chat” series which aired over December and early January.
Here is the speaker line up .. Cant wait to share with you January 16th -21st Free to subscribe https://t.co/fYpUo9xhBD
— Dolores Andrew Gavin (@emotionalsummit) January 7, 2017
How is IrishHealthHour an interactive platform?
It is interactive in that there is a hashtag hour every Saturday morning from 11 – 12 am GMT #irishhealthhour. On this hashtag hour people can network with others in any area of health and wellness.
There is a chance to be a guest on the hashtag hour (part of the paid community plan) where you get to promote what you do and be available on the hour to interact with people. Your company get a weeks promotion before the hour across all platforms Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Google+
The topics included in the health and wellness community are varied and people can benefit from learning something new, whether it be a mindset skill or a recipe for a healthy soup or vegan bread!
It is always “open mic” too though on the hour for all things health and wellness and you are welcome to shout out what it is you do even if you are not the guest! It is like networking in a friendly environment, except you are tweeting!!!
Do you have to be in the health and wellness business to take part?
Yes, if you are promoting your work it has to be health and wellness related. BUT if you are looking for a recipe, a yoga practitioner, a bottle of essential oil, a fitness expert or a reflexologist then you can come along and ask a question to find who or what you are looking for.
In that way you have a chance to possibly chat or should I say “tweet” with the practitioner you may end up working with. It is a great way for people to know whether or not they will resonate with people too. Business does take place on the hour! We also discuss community issues with guests who have an expertise in a particular area.
Does it cost to join the hashtag hour?
No not at all. IrishHealthHour has lots of free resources. One of these is the hashtag hour which happens every Saturday as I mentioned from 11 – 12 am GMT. There is also an informative blog on the web site and listings of workshops all over Ireland or farther afield.
Are these the ones Iarliath loves? Oh they look gorgeous defo making them tomorrow. @organicseaweed1 https://t.co/WnbODj3OO3

Mini Media Meets...Suzie Mahony Designs
When you visit Suzie Mahony Designs you get so much more than ‘just a hat’. I provides a one stop shop for all your style and accessory needs for your special occasion. I am one of Ireland’s leading Milliners with several awards spanning a career of nearly 15 years.
Tell us a little bit about Suzie Mahony Designs
When you visit Suzie Mahony Designs you get so much more than ‘just a hat’. I provides a one stop shop for all your style and accessory needs for your special occasion. As one of Ireland’s leading Milliners with several awards spanning a career of nearly 15 years, I create and design bespoke hats and headpieces for ladies throughout Ireland and further afield for family weddings and race meetings such as Ascot or Cheltenham.
I have worked with many high profile clients including designing a hat which was presented to the First Lady Michelle Obama in 2014 by Mr Henry Healy (Barrack Obama’s cousin) for St Patricks Day. Clients have adorned my creations to Garden Parties at Buckingham Palace and my ‘Butterfly’ Silk Collection of Hats was showcased at London Fashion Week in association with the Princes Trust. Mothers of the Bride/Groom visit my studio by appointment where I style the complete look for them, creating the perfect hat or headpiece for their wedding.
Wow, you have an amazing studio, tell us about what you offer?
My studio is beside our home and it has been purposely adapted over the years for my Millinery business. I see my clients on a 1-2-1 basis by appointment where I go through the whole style of my client for her special occasion.
I give advice and tips on every aspect of her outfit from head to toe. With knowledge garnered from doing style events I have a wealth of experience to draw from to help my clients. The hat is the crowning glory and can bring the whole outfit together. It’s important the client is comfortable in the complete look including the hat and it’s my job to make that work.
Hats & Headpieces
The studio is full to the ceiling with fabulous hats and headpieces, all shapes and styles. I design for each season, focussing on new ways of working with different raw materials that inspire me. There is a perfect hat design to suit every lady and it’s important you are able to see what shapes and designs work for you.
My occasion accessory styling has been featured on Xpose TV3 showing ladies that a dress can look very different by choosing a variety of colours or shapes to accessorise it from jewellery, shoes, bag and hat.
Your 1-2-1 Appointment with me at my studio is a complete styling experience. I take you through your whole look for your wedding or special event. The overall look come seamlessly together with the design of my fabulous hats and headpieces.
With my 'Rainbow Occasion Shoes' available to order dyed to match for your event I can cater for all your requirements . My studio stocks a vast range of all accessories to choose from.
My work has been featured on many TV shows including nationwide, Ireland AM, X-pose, Fashion TV and Irish TV, press and fashion magazines including being featured in Vogue Magazine.
Jewellery
There is a wide range of jewellery available online at www.suziemahonydesigns.com. From costume neck pieces which can add great detail to a simple dress or classic pearl and silver selections which add a touch of sparkle without overpowering an outfit. I also make pearl and Swarovski crystal jewellery specifically for clients needs.
Handmade Beaded Collars
My handmade beaded collars are available exclusively at my studio or via my online store www.suziemahonydesigns.com. Offering a variety of colour combos and different precious gems and stones. I also make bespoke collars for clients to bring in the tones which they need for a personalised collar design.
You also stock the Rainbow Occasion Shoe Collection?
As a listed stockist I have the Rainbow shoe designs which I order in dyed to match for my clients. When dyeing the hat it makes perfect sense to match the shoe/bag if the look requires that, this ensures all your accessories are perfectly toned to match your outfit.
Suzie Mahony Designs has a strong association with Ladies Days at Race Meetings in Ireland, tell us a little more about that?
I sponsored the ‘Most Appropriately Dressed Lady’ competition on the Monday evening of the Galway Races for a number of years with my guest judge Mr Noel Cunningham TV3, we loved the event each year meeting people from all over and soaking up the unique Galway Races atmosphere.
I have worked with Marietta Doran for many years designing hats for her to attend race meetings throughout Ireland. The Best Dressed Ladies Days have grown and I have been fortunate to have had many clients win on several occasions nationwide.
Just this December I created the hat for Breda Butler who won best dressed at Limerick Races and earlier in 2016 I designed the fabulous red ‘Hepburn’ hat for Sarah Jane Moran who scooped Best Dressed at the Roscommon Races.
I love creating hats and working through the whole look for my clients for the races and it is a bonus if they are chosen or win a prize. I know how difficult it is when choosing a winner with so many contenders, having judged ‘best dressed’ myself at Galway and The Curragh Racecourse.
How can you help brides to be?
I explore through all aspects of what a Bride wants to achieve for her special day from working with the dress chosen, jewellery options that will suit, hair guidance on styles that bring out the best for your overall look, veils, shoes and the various designs for Bridal Headwear. I help brides through styling/designing the perfect headpiece to be worn on their special day.
You also set up Suzie Mahony Designs School of Millinery, tell us more.
With years of training and business experience creating hats and Millinery I set up my School of Millinery as a way of sharing my skill, passing on the art of Millinery the way I have developed it for myself. I have a timetable of tailor made workshops available which are held at my millinery workshop/studio. The range of workshops and courses will grow introducing many of the aspects to learn about Millinery.
Your Millinery Hen Parties sound so much fun. What a fantastic idea for a hen party, what does it involve?
The Hen Party Millinery Workshops are a 2.5 hour class in my Millinery Studio or a location of your choice. Hens are greeted with a glass of bubbly before learning how to create their own individual pieces to be worn at the wedding or something stylish for a fun day out at the races!!
You will all enjoy a headpiece/fascinator making class with Milliner Suzie Mahony, using specialist materials including straws, feathers, beading, lace and silks. The class caters from 5 participants upwards with dates subject to availability (including evenings and weekends).
You are a fully qualified trainer and passionate about education, tell us about this aspect of Suzie Mahony.
I facilitate Millinery Workshops with TY Students in schools around the country. I am a fully qualified Trainer and I am passionate about education. This workshop is specifically designed for the students to bring out the most creativity from them through the 2 hour workshop. I cater for groups of 20 and often do multiple workshops to accommodate larger TY classes in one day.

Yes, Wigs at Bellissimo... We recently re-vamped our wig studio and private fitting room. We offer a discreet and professional service.
There are two forms of wig wearer, the necessity wearer which includes those suffering from Alopecia or those undergoing severe medical treatment, and the fashion wearer – those who like to change style from day to day to suit their mood.
Bellissimo works in conjunction with the Mid Western Health Board to provide support (both financial* and cosmetic) to the necessity wearer.
The Monofilament fibre used in our hairpieces is structurally almost identical to actual hair in both appearance and touch but without any of the drawbacks of maintenance, which is of huge benefit to those undergoing medical treatment.
If for any reason the wig does not suit the wearer’s needs, there is no problem exchanging the hairpiece for a different style or colour.

I was delighted to be able to support Sparkle at the g fashion fundraiser in aid of Tomorrow For Tomás on Friday the 23rd September in the g Hotel . I had the pleasure of working with Tomás' parents Shane & Ann-Marie McLoughlin and the fantastic fundraiser committee over a 3 month period.
I also got to hang out with Tomás, such a fun loving and happy boy and I instantly fell in love with his bright and chatty personality. Tomás, is 6 and a half years old and has spastic quadriplegic cerebral palsy. Born at 26 weeks he and his twin arrived unexpectedly into the world. Sadly his brother Seán passed away after 30 days. Tomás has no independent movement and he will require life-long supports and very costly equipment.
I was responsible for the digital marketing strategy leading up to the event, including:
- Setting up a Twitter Account
- Online ticket sales
- Facebook Live
- Actively monitoring social media
- Content creation
- Design of invitations and tickets
- Web design
The event was a huge success with a total of €13,230 raised. The funds are being used so that the family home can be adapted for Tomás’ living and care needs, as well as ensuring safe and easy access about the house and garden on his new wheels!
#Sparkleattheg also trended on twitter on the night of the fashion show - Mini Media was very happy with that.

Writing your business plan is a vital part of the process of starting a business and arms you with information you need to know to set out on the right track. A business plan serves many purposes and should be tailored each time for your specific audience. Before you start it's important to know who you will be presenting the business plan to, as this will dedicate the length and focus of the business plan.
Here are my top tips when planning and writing your business plan:
Be realistic about financial estimates and projections: I cannot stress this enough, when presenting your business plan ensure that your estimates and projections are achievable and feasible. Good tip is not to over project profits, keep it real!
The process and blueprint: Your business plan should reflect your ideas and insights about your business and its future. The process of writing a business plan will focus you to consider the viability of your business before you commit to a course of action.
Qualify your assumptions: Follow up your projections and assertions with statistics, facts or quotes from a knowledgeable source to lend your plan credibility.
Presentation is key: Format your business plan to keep the attention of the reader. Avoid long, text-heavy document which are hard on the eyes. The ideal business plan should include short text paragraphs with charts and graphs. A typical business plan is 10 to 20 pages, however its length depends on a variety of factors.
